Purchased first business nearly fifty years ago (general store) tripled turnover and sold within two years. Following various other "interesting" ventures started Wholesale business in 1980 and built to over £1million turnover in less than five years. In 1987 started as a Business Adviser with the Government Small Firms Service and became a founder and fellow of what is now the Institute of Consulting.

Worked as business adviser for TECs, Business Links. etc. In 1998  part of an MBO/MBI of Mechan Controls as company secretary/executive director, taking the business public in 2003 .​
